My Romanian Arrival

Well folks, I arrived in Deveselu, Romania via Dulles, Washington DC, and Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹.  Other than a completely full plane and being seated in the middle section, middle seat and the plane being incredibly hot, it was just long. They do treat you right though;  non-stop beverages (beer, wine, liquor, and a host of non-alcoholic drinks). Then there’s a dinner, I had penne pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce with hot bread and cheesecake.  In the morning, they served breakfast with hot beverages or orange/apple juice, water, etc.  Getting off the plane, it was pouring rain in Vienna but when I arrived here in Bucharest, it was sunny and 69 degrees.

I spent the weekend unpacking and sleeping and then sleeping some more in-between sleeping.  I got all caught from my lack of sleep to get over the jet lag and went right to work today for my first day.  It was fantastic!  I'm very excited about being here and I've already signed up for two tours; one to northern Romania in the Transylvanian mountains to include the Turda Salt Mines (wait until you see those pictures), and the second to the iron gate on the Danube River south of the base.  The Romanian people are very friendly and I've already met with the Romanian Base Commander and my Romanian IT Director counterpart.  This will be a good two years.

I made my first currency exchange; dollars 💵 to Euros 💶 to 🇷🇴 Romanian Leu.  Now if I only knew what it is worth 😊.  Actually, it is about four RON to the dollar - a great exchange rate compared to Euros.

More to come this week when I venture out for my first trek into the Romanian countryside - my Hail to the new duty station at the No Name Restaurant.  If you look it up on Google (in Caracal), you'll see the owner is a HUGE New England Patriots fan.  This should be fun!
